Mandala rock painting

Crafting in our home is a common thing, so of course our summer days will likely be filled doing A LOT of crafts. A few days ago my littles voted to paint rocks so we did just that.  I love this craft because it is pretty simple and inexpensive.  All you need is 3 items, paint, paintbrushes and rocks.  We found our rocks while on a walk in our neighbourhood but you can purchase rocks at any craft store like Michaels or even Mastermind Toys.

For this activity I decided to try painting mandala rocks with the kids.  I knew it might be a bit challenging for my two youngest littles, but I also knew it would be a great way to strengthen fine motor skills.  (there is a method to my madness lol) The mandala rocks we painted were obviously not as intricate as they could be but I think the kids got the main idea of what they should look like.  This is an activity that we will for sure do again and again as the kids loved it.  The instructions were pretty simple for the kids to follow and they were proud of how they turned out.

Step 1 – Gather rocks

Step 2 Clean the rocks

Step 3 – Gather all of you materials.  I personally like to use acrylic paints.  TIP- you will need very thin paint brushes

Step 4- Paint a dark circle in the middle of the rock

Step 5- Paint a white circle in the middle of the rock, with little white dots around it

Step 5 – Choose your desired colours and keep framing the dots with larger dots around each layer

Yay they are done!

Below is a  photo of the other rocks we painted…can you guess which one I painted? 🙂

Here are a few photos from pinterest of just how intricate mandala rock painting can be.  So pretty!
